BRIDGE TO NOWHERE
MOUNTAIN BIKE CYCLE WAY TRAIL
"Mountains to Sea" Cycle Trail Hikoi -
This track is 35 km long from the Ruatiti Road end to the Whanganui river via the Bridge to Nowhere following an old road and is now part of the National cycle way. There has been extensive work on this track over the summer of 2009/2010 to bring it to a National Standard.
The track runs mainly through the reverting farmland that was developed by returned servicemen from World War One and farmed until the mid 1940’s when a combination of hardships and erosion that kept on closing the road, forced the last farmers out of the valley.
The first 45 minutes to one hour riding is a gradual climb uphill and then across the Mangapurua Trig. From this point you start the downhill leg which runs down into the Mangapurua Valley. Through this valley there are signs with the names of the pioneer farmers and where they farmed.
After 25 km the track width is reduced considerably to 1 - 1.2m and provides some more challenging riding for the next 8 km to the Bridge to Nowhere. From the Bridge to Nowhere to the river is another 2 km along a well used walking track.
Note - Mangapurua (Bridge to Nowhere) Track is rated as a grade 3 and is a reasonable mountain bike experiance and fitness level is required.
Riding time 5 - 7 hours

Bridge to Nowhere - One day Ride
We can cater for all group sizes where we will pick you up at your accommodation in Raetihi or Ohakune and transport you to the Ruatiti Road end (1 hour) where you start your ride and then pick you up at the Mangapurua landing with our Jet Boats and jet boat you 32 km back to Pipiriki where our passenger van will return you back to your accommodation.
Allow 8 - 10 hours

The Whanganui River Adventures
Bridge to Nowhere - Butbuster Ride
Ride from Raetihi or Ohakune the 40 km down the Ruatiti Road end (half sealed and half gravel road) then carry on down the Mangapurua valley to meet with our Jet Boats at a pre arranged time before being jet boated back to Pipiriki and then transported back to Raetihi or Ohakune

Two (2) day Ride
If all of the above sounds just a little too hectic for you, take along your sleeping bag and tent fly and do the ride in two days. With many great spots in the Mangapurua valley, it’s not hard to lose a day or two.
